Wedding in Istanbul
I’m crazy in love with Istanbul. I enjoy getting lost in its streets in the search of a scene to photograph.
That day in September 2014, I walked for quite a long time from a place called Eminonu, where boats leave for the Bosphorus, and I kept walking to Fener, one of my favourite neighborhoods. Along the shoreline, I saw families having a picnic, lovers walking hand in hand, children playing football and people taking a break for a classic Turkish tea. In the background, the lively soundtrack of that city: the horn of a ship, calls to the mosque, people talking in that incomprehensible language.
When I walked my way back knowing that I had not taken any decent photos, far in the distance in front of me, I saw something that looked like a wedding. When I got closer, I knew I was right. The bride, the groom, a man dressed in a traditional costume holding an umbrella. The photographer, her assistant and the rest of the family. While they waited their turn for their photo to be taken, the children, who never waste their time, began to play. A young girl with a wide smile struck my attention: she was playing with an older relative with Down syndrome.
In addition to the girl’s beautiful attitude, I like the balance and the repetition of the arms in the foreground with the scene behind that gives harmony to the composition.
That is Istanbul. And much more.
